Purim – Celebrated with our friends at First English Baptist Church.
This is a community event and the public is invited to join us for the reading of the Megillah, food, games, costumes, fellowship and song.
This will be or second year celebrating with our First Baptist friends and we look forward to an even bigger and better party this year.
Celebrate Rosh Hashanah with Beth Israel Congregation! We’ll welcome the year 5787 on the Jewish calendar starting at 7 p.m. Friday, September 11 at the synagogue.
Please read the Holiday Schedule for complete details on Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur
Learn to blow the shofar, then test your skills at Beth Israel Congregation’s annual Shofar, Sho Good Contest! The shofar is a horn, traditionally a ram’s horn, blown like a bugle as part of the Rosh Hashanah – Jewish New Year – services. To blow the shofar at the synagogue for High Holy Day services, which begins at sundown Sept. 22, a person must be Jewish. But non-Jews are welcome to enter the competition – there will also be a prize for whoever wins the contest overall, regardless of his or her religion. The synagogue will loan shofars to any contestants who don’t have their own. If it rains, the contest will be moved to the synagogue at 144 E. Fourth St., Bloomsburg.
