Celebrate Rosh Hashanah with Beth Israel Congregation! We’ll welcome the year 5786 on the Jewish calendar starting at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22 at the synagogue.

Please read the Holiday Schedule for complete details on Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur

Learn to blow the shofar, then test your skills at Beth Israel Congregation’s annual Shofar, Sho Good Contest! The shofar is a horn, traditionally a ram’s horn, blown like a bugle as part of the Rosh Hashanah – Jewish New Year – services. To blow the shofar at the synagogue for High Holy Day services, which begins at sundown Sept. 22, a person must be Jewish. But non-Jews are welcome to enter the competition – there will also be a prize for whoever wins the contest overall, regardless of his or her religion. The synagogue will loan shofars to any contestants who don’t have their own. If it rains, the contest will be moved to the synagogue at 144 E. Fourth St., Bloomsburg.
